हा पुरस्कार अभियांत्रिकी क्षेत्रात संशोधन करून त्या संशोधनातील निष्कर्षांचा समाजाच्या हितासाठी प्रत्यक्ष व्यवहारात वापर करणाऱ्या आणि कोणत्याही अभियांत्रिकी शाखेत पात्रता असलेल्या आणि १५ सप्टेंबर २०२५ या दिवशी ४० वर्षे पूर्ण किंवा ४० वर्षांपेक्षा कमी वय असणाऱ्या भारतीय अभियंत्यांना दिला जातो.
पुरस्काराचे नियम:
- हा पुरस्कार मराठी विज्ञान परिषद पुरस्कृत असून भारतरत्न सरमोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या ह्यांच्या नावे देण्यात येतो.
- पुरस्काराचे स्वरूप ₹ १०,०००/-, स्मृतीचिन्ह आणि सन्मानपत्र असे आहे.
- या पुरस्कारासाठी अभियांत्रिकी क्षेत्रात संशोधन करून त्या संशोधनातील निष्कर्षांचा समाजाच्या हितासाठी प्रत्यक्ष व्यवहारात वापर करणाऱ्या आणि कोणत्याही अभियांत्रिकी शाखेत पात्रता असलेल्या १५ सप्टेंबर २०२५ ला ४० वर्षे पूर्ण किंवा ४० वर्षांपेक्षा कमी वय असणारा भारतीय अभियंता अर्ज करू शकतो.या पुरस्कारासाठी ऑनलाईन प्रवेशअर्ज भरण्याचा अंतिम दिनांक २० ऑगस्ट २०२५ आहे.
- येथे गुगल लिंकद्वारे ऑनलाईन प्रवेशअर्ज भरावा. यात आपण केलेल्या कामाचे संक्षिप्त तसेच, विस्तृत सचित्र वर्णन असणे आवश्यक आहे. प्रवेशअर्जात इच्छुक उमेदवाराने संपूर्ण माहिती भरणे आवश्यक आहे.
- निवड समिती अर्ज केलेल्या उमेदवारांमधून काही उमेदवारांना शॉर्टलिस्ट करेल आणि निवड समिती या निवडलेल्या उमेदवारांची ऑनलाइन मुलाखत घेईल. त्यानंतर समिती या निवडलेल्या उमेदवारांमधून पुरस्कार विजेत्याची निवड करेल आणि त्यांचा निर्णय अंतिम असेल. समिती या वर्षासाठी कोणत्याही उमेदवाराला पुरस्कार न देण्याचा निर्णय घेऊ शकते.
- पुरस्कार वितरण समारंभ १५ सप्टेंबरला २०२५ रोजी मुंबई अथवा महाराष्ट्रातील अन्य शहरातील एखाद्या अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालयात होईल. पुरस्कार वितरण समारंभात विजेत्याने ३० ते ४५ मिनिटे आपले काम पॉवर पॉईण्ट प्रेझेण्टेशनद्वारे सादर करणे आवश्यक आहे. विजेत्या व्यक्तीने स्वखर्चाने पुरस्कार वितरण समारंभाला उपस्थित रहाणे अपेक्षित आहे.
भारतरत्न सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या हे एक श्रेष्ठ स्थापत्य अभियंता होते. कर्नाटकातल्या चिक्क-बल्लापूर जिल्हातील मुद्देनहळ्ळी या गावी १५ सप्टेंबर, १८६१ रोजी त्यांचा जन्म झाला. १९०३मध्ये पुण्याला ते खडकवासला धरणावर काम करत असताना, त्यांनी पावसाळ्यात धरणामध्ये जास्त पाणी आल्याने धरण असुरक्षित होऊ नये म्हणून निर्माण केलेल्या स्वयंचलित स्लुईस गेट्स हा त्यांच्या प्रतिभेचा एक अद्वितीय अविष्कार होता व त्यानंतर ग्वाल्हेरच्या तिग्रा आणि म्हैसूरच्या कृष्णराज सागर धरणावर या स्वयंचलित स्लुईस गेट्स वापरल्या गेल्या. १९०६ मध्ये त्यांनी ब्रिटीश कॉलनी ऑफ एडन (सध्याचे येमेन) येथे पाणी व सांडपाण्याची व्यवस्था करून देण्याचे काम केले. हैदराबाद शहराला पूरनियंत्रण योजना तर केलीच पण एरवी जाणवणाऱ्या पाण्याच्या तुटवड्यासाठी उस्मानसागर आणि हुसेनसागर या तलावांची निर्मिती करून दिली, जी आजही उपयोगी पडते. विशाखापट्टणम येथे समुद्राच्या लाटांमुळे होणारी धूप त्यांनी थांबवली. बिहारमध्ये गंगेवरील मोकामा पुलासाठी त्यांनी काम केले. पुढे ते म्हैसूरचे दिवाण झाल्यावर त्यांनी कावेरी नदीवर कृष्णराज सागर धरण बांधले, म्हैसूर सोप फॅक्टरी सुरू केली, म्हैसूर आयर्न अँड स्टील फॅक्टरी सुरू केली, पॅरॉसिटोल्ड लॅबोरेटरी, बंगळुरुला जय चामराज पॉलिटेक्निक, कृषी विद्यापीठ, कॉलेज ऑफ इंजिनिअरिंग, बँक ऑफ म्हैसूर, म्हैसूर चेंबर ऑफ कॉमर्स, कन्नड परिषद अशा संस्था सुरू केल्या. त्यांच्या प्रेरणेने हिंदुस्तान एअर क्राफ्ट आणि प्रीमिअर ऑटोमोबाईल या कंपन्या वालचंद हिराचंद ह्यांनी सुरू केल्या. त्यांना १९५५मध्ये भारत सरकारने त्यांना भारतरत्न पुरस्काराने सन्मानित केले. मुंबईतील इंस्टिट्युट ऑफ केमिकल टेक्नॉलॉजी (पूर्वीची युडीसीटी) स्थापन करण्याच्या सल्लागार समितीत ते होते.
अशा या देश घडवणाऱ्या अभियंत्याच्या जन्मदिनी म्हणजे १५ सप्टेंबर या दिवशी दरवर्षी राष्ट्रीय अभियंता दिन साजरा केला जातो.
Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya Award in Engineering (2025)
The award is given to an Indian Engineer, qualified in any discipline, having age 40 or less (on 15th September 2025) and who has conducted research in the field of engineering and used the findings of the research in practice for the benefit of the society.
Rules for the award:
- This award is instituted by Marathi Vidnyan Parishad (MaViPa) and is given in the name of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
- The award will be ₹ 10,000/- and a memento with a citation.
- Any Engineer from India, qualified in any discipline, having age 40 or less (on 15th September 2025) and who has conducted research in the field of engineering and used the findings of the research in practice for the benefit of the society can apply for this award. The last date for filling online entry form is 20th August 2025.
- Use this Google Form link to fill out the online application. It should include a concise summary of the work you have done, as well as a thorough description with illustrations. Interested candidate must fill complete information in the application form.
- A selection committee constituted will shortlist the candidates and these shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the selection committee online. The committee will then select the awardee from these shortlisted candidates and its decision will be final. The committee in its wisdom may choose not to award any candidate for the year.
- The award will be conferred on 15th September 2025 in one of the Engineering Colleges in Mumbai or any city of Maharashtra. The awardee will give a powerpoint presentation of his work in 30 to 45 minutes at the award distribution ceremony. The awardee is expected to attend the award ceremony at his/her own expense.
Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya was one of the most celebrated Civil Engineer of India. He was born on September 15, 1861, in Mudenhalli village, Karnataka. In 1903, when he was working on the Khadakvasla dam in Pune, he developed automatic sluice gate valves to prevent the dam from being unsafe due to floods; this became a unique of its kind and was subsequently used on Tighra Dam at Gwalior and Krishnaraja Sagar Dam, Mysore. In 1906, he provided water and sewage arrangements at British Colony of Aden (Present day Yemen). While developing flood control schemes for the city of Hyderabad, he also constructed Osmanasagar and Hussainasagar lakes to handle the water scarcity; which are used even today. He was instrumental in developing a system to protect Vishakhapattanam port from sea erosion. He worked for Bihar’s Mokam bridge on the Ganga River. Later, after being Diwan of Mysore, he built Krishnaraj Sagar dam on the Kaveri river, started the Mysore Soap Factory, started the Mysore Iron and Steel Factory, and institutes like Paracitold Laboratory, Jay Chamraj Polytechnic, Bangalore University, College of Engineering, Bank of Mysore, Mysore Chamber of Commerce, Kannad Council. With his inspiration, Walchand Hirachand started Hindustan Aircraft and Premier Automobile Companies. He was awarded the highest civilian award Bharat Ratna by Government of India in 1955. He served on the advisory panel for the establishment of Mumbai’s Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly known as UDCT).
On the birthday of such eminent Engineer, National Engineers Day is celebrated every year on the 15th of September, throughout India.
