भारतरत्न सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या अभियांत्रिकी पुरस्कार २०२३

विविध अभियांत्रिकी शाखांतील नाविन्यपूर्ण तंत्रज्ञान विकसित करुन ते तंत्रज्ञान व्यावहारिक तसेच समाजाभिमुख वापराकरिता संशोधन करणाऱ्या तरुण अभियंत्याना (वय वर्षे चाळीस अथवा त्यापेक्षा कमी) हा पुरस्कार दिला जातो.

पुरस्काराचे नियम :

  1. हा पुरस्कार मराठी विज्ञान परिषद पुरस्कृत असून भारतरत्न सरमोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या ह्यांच्या नावे देण्यात येतो.
  2. अर्जदाराचे वय चाळीस वर्षे अथवा त्यापेक्षा कमी असावे.
  3. पुरस्काराचे स्वरुप ₹ १०,०००/-, स्मृतीचिन्ह आणि सन्मानपत्र असे आहे.
  4. या पुरस्कारासाठी भारतातील कोणताही अभियंता अर्ज करु शकतो.ऑनलाईन प्रवेशअर्ज भरण्याचा अंतिम दिनांक ३० ऑगस्ट  २०२३ आहे.
  5. https://forms.gle/yyU4LxBVHdW7kZJD7 या गुगल लिंक द्वारे   ऑनलाईन प्रवेशअर्ज  भरावा. यात  आपण केलेल्या कामाचे संक्षिप्त तसेच, विस्तृत व  सचित्र वर्णन असणे आवश्यक आहे. प्रवेशअर्जात इच्छुक उमेदवाराने संपूर्ण माहिती भरणे आवश्यक आहे.
  6. या सर्व प्रवेश अर्जांचे परीक्षण, मराठी विज्ञान परिषदेने नियुक्त केलेल्या निवडसमितीमार्फत केले जाईल आणि पुरस्कार विजेत्याचे नाव जाहीर केले जाईल. तसेच पुरस्कार वितरणासंबधीचा तपशील (तारीख, वेळ, ठिकाण इत्यादी) जाहीर केले जाईल. पुरस्कार समारंभ सर्वसाधारणपणे मुंबईत होईल. विजेत्याने आपले कार्य ‘पीपीटी’द्वारे (३० ते ४५ मिनिटे) सादर करणे आवश्यक आहे. विजेत्या व्यक्तीला वेगळा प्रवासखर्च देण्यात येत नाही.
  7. आलेल्या प्रवेशिकांतून एका प्रवेशिकेची निवड मराठी विज्ञान परिषदेने नेमलेल्या समितीमार्फत केली जाईल व त्या समितीचा निर्णय अंतिम राहील.
  8. अपवादात्मक परिस्थितीत वरील अटी आवश्यकतेनुसार शिथिल करण्याचे सर्व अधिकार मराठी विज्ञान परिषदेकडे राहतील.

मराठी विज्ञान परिषदेस मिळालेल्या रु. २ लाखांच्या देणगीच्या व्याजातून भारतरत्न सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या अभियांत्रिकी पुरस्कार मराठी विज्ञान परिषदेतर्फे  दिला जातो. दरवर्षी विविध अभियांत्रिकी शाखांतील नाविन्यपूर्ण तंत्रज्ञान विकसित करुन ते तंत्रज्ञान व्यावहारिक तसेच समाजाभिमुख वापराकरिता वापरात आणणाऱ्या तरुण अभियंत्याला (वय वर्षे चाळीस अथवा त्यापेक्षा कमी) हा पुरस्कार दिला जातो. ₹ १०,०००/-, स्मृतीचिन्ह आणि सन्मानपत्र असे स्वरुप आहे. सन २०१८पासून झालेल्या या पुरस्कार योजनेत  अभियांत्रिकीच्या कोणत्याही शाखेतील लोक अर्ज करु शकतील.

सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या

भारतरत्न सर मोक्षगुंडम विश्वेश्वरय्या यांचा जन्म दि. १५ सप्टेंबर, १८६१ रोजी कर्नाटकातल्या चिक्क-बल्लापूर जिल्हातील मुद्देनहळ्ळी या गावी झाला. आंध्र प्रदेशातील कुर्नूल भागातील मोक्षगुंडम गावचे ते मुळ रहिवासी. प्राथमिक शिक्षण कर्नाटकातील चिक्क-बल्लापूर या खेड्यात आणि पुढे १८८०मध्ये बंगळुरुच्या सेंट्रल कॉलेजमधून अत्यंत प्रतिकूल परिस्थितीत परंतु विशेष गुणवत्तेत बी.ए. उत्तीर्ण. बंगळुरुहून बी.ए. झाल्यावर पुण्याला आले आणि १८८३मध्ये कॉलेज ऑफ इंजिनिअरिंगमधून सिव्हील इंजिनिअर झाले. या परीक्षेत ते तत्कालीन मुंबई प्रांतात पहिले आले. त्यानंतर त्यांनी तेव्हाच्या मुंबई राज्यातील नाशिक, खानदेश आणि पुणे येथे नोकरी केली. पुण्याला ते खडकवासला धरणावर असताना १९०३मध्ये त्यांनी जास्त पाण्यामुळे धरण असुरक्षित होऊ नये म्हणून निर्माण केलेल्या स्वयंचलित स्लुईस गेट्स व्हाल्व्हास अद्वितीय ठरल्या व त्यानंतर ग्वाल्हेरच्या तिग्रा आणि म्हैसूरच्या कृष्णराज सागर धरणावर त्या वापरल्या गेल्या. १९०६मध्ये त्यांनी एडनला पाणी व सांडपाण्याची व्यवस्था करून दिली. हैदराबाद शहराला पूरनियंत्रण योजना तर केलीच पण एरवी जाणवणाऱ्या पाण्याच्या तुटवड्यासाठी उस्मानसागर आणि हुसेनसागर या तलावांची निर्मिती करून दिली, जी आजही उपयोगी पडते. विशाखापट्टणम येथे समुद्राच्या लाटांमुळे होणारी धूप त्यांनी थांबवली. बिहारमध्ये गंगेवरील मोकामा पुलासाठी त्यांनी काम केले. पुढे ते म्हैसूरचे दिवाण झाल्यावर त्यांनी कावेरी नदीवर कृष्णराज सागर धरण बांधले, म्हैसूर सोप  फॅक्टरी सुरू केली, म्हैसूर आयर्न अँड स्टील  फॅक्टरी सुरू केली,  पॅरॉसिटोल्ड  लॅबोरेटरी, बंगळुरुला जय कामराज पॉलिटेक्निक, कृषी विद्यापीठ, कॉलेज ऑफ इंजिनिअरिंग, बँक ऑफ म्हैसूर, म्हैसूर चेंबर ऑफ कॉमर्स, कन्नड परिषद अशा संस्था सुरू केल्या. त्यांच्या प्रेरणेने हिदुस्तान एरॉनॉटिक्स आणि प्रीमिअर ऑटोमोबाईल या कंपन्या वालचंद हिराचंद ह्यांनी सुरु केल्या. मुंबईतील इन्स्टिट्यूट ऑफ केमिकल टेक्नॉलॉजी (पूर्वीची युडीसीटी) स्थापन करण्याच्या सल्लागार समितीत ते होते. सर विश्वेश्वरय्या यांना १९५५मध्ये भारतरत्न पुरस्काराने सन्मानित करण्यात आले. अशा या देश घडवणाऱ्या अभियंत्याच्या जन्मदिनी म्हणजे १५ सप्टेंबर या दिवशी दरवर्षी ‘राष्ट्रीय अभियंता दिन’ साजरा केला जातो.

Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya Award in Engineering

This award is to be given to young engineer (40 years of age or below) who has developed a new technique practically viable as well as beneficial for the society.

Rules for the award:

  1. This award is instituted by Marathi Vidnyan Parishad (MaViPa) and is given in the name of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.
  2. The award will be ₹ 10,000/- and a memento with citation.
  3. Any Engineer from India can apply for this award. The last date for filling online form is 30th August 2023

It should include a concise summary of applicant’s work done, as well as a detailed description supported by necessary illustrations/ photographs. Interested candidate must fill complete information in the concerned form.
  1. All these entries will be examined by the committee of judges formed by MaViPa. The decision of the committee will be final. The award will be conferred on 15th September 2023. The place/ venue of the said ceremony will be at Mumbai generally. The winning contestant will be required to present his work (with the help of PPT) in 30 to 45 minutes during this function. The winning contestant should attend the said ceremony at his/her own expense.
  2. A committee of judges formed by MaViPa, will select the awardee from the entries received and its decision will be final.
  3. The right to make any amendment/relax the rules is reserved with MaViPa.

Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya Award is being given by way of the interest of the sum of Rs.2 lakhs (donation) received by Marathi Vidnyan Parishad. The award consists of ₹ 10,000/- with memento and citation. The award scheme started in the year 2018 and will continue up to the year 2027. This award is to be given to young engineer (40 years of age or below) who has developed a new technique practically viable beneficial work for society. In the beginning, specific subject was chosen for the prize for example Civil Engineering. The awad is open to any branch of Engineering.

About Sir. M. Vishweshvarayya

Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya was the finest engineer; Mokshagundam Vishweshvarayya was born on September 15, 1861, in Mudenhalli village, Chikk-Ballapur District in Karnataka. His Native place is Mokshagundam village in the Kurnool area of ​​Andhra Pradesh. His primary education took place in Chikk-Ballapur in Karnataka. In 1880 passed B.A. in special excellence at Bengaluru’s Central College, in extremely unfavorable conditions. After B.A. he came to Pune and became a Civil Engineer at the College of Engineering, Pune in 1883 where he stood first in the then Bombay Province. After that, he did his jobs at Nashik, Khandesh, and Pune in the then Bombay Province In 1903, when he was at the Khadakvasla dam in Pune, he developed automatic sluice gate valves to prevent the dam from being unsafe due to floods; this became a unique of its kind and was subsequently used on Tighra Dam at Gwalior and Krishnaraja Sagar Dam, Mysore. In 1906, he provided water and sewage infrastructure at Aden. While developing flood control systems for the city of Hyderabad, he also constructed Osmanasagar and Hussainasagar lakes to tackle the water scarcity; these are  useful even today. He was instrumental in developing a system to protect Vishakhapattanam port from sea erosion. He worked for Bihar’s Mokam bridge on the Ganga River. Later, after being Diwan of Mysore, he built Krishnaraj Sagar dam on the Kaveri river, started the Mysore Soap Factory, Mysore Iron and Steel Factory, and institutes like Paracitold Laboratory, Jay Kamraj Polytechnic, Bangalore University, College of Engineering, Bank of Mysore, Mysore Chamber of Commerce, Kannada Council. He inspired Mr. Walchand Hirachand to establish major companies like Hindustan Aircraft and Premier Automobile. He served on the advisory panel for the establishment of Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai (formerly known as UDCT). He was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1955.

On the birth anniversary of such Engineer par excellence, National Engineers Day is celebrated on 15th September every year, throughout India.
